Napoli Enter Race to Sign Manchester United Target Jackson Martinez
Serie A stalwarts Napoli are thought to have joined the race for the signature of Porto’s enigmatic striker and Colombian international Jackson Martinez, according to Italian newspaper Il Mattino.
The 27-year-old Martinez has been nothing short of fiery in terms of form for the Portuguese giants in recent months, scoring no less than 27 goals for Porto in his 50 appearances overall this season.
And it comes as no surprise that Napoli boss Rafa Benitez has taken a liking to the player. Now the Spanish manager is intent on bringing the Colombian to the Stadio San Paolo in an effort to give star striker Gonzalo Higuain a needed scoring partner and reinforce their attacking threat.
But Napoli will certainly face stern competition for Manchester United, with the 20-time English champions also keen on snapping up the striker to ensure they bounce back from their abysmal performance this season.
As to the future of Martinez, however, only time will tell as to what his final decision will be.
Martinez’s contract with Porto is set to expire in 2016.
