Manchester United Set to Miss Out on Gonalons as Agent Confirms Napoli Talks
Premier League giants Manchester United are set to miss out on one of their main transfer targets in the summer, Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons, as the player’s agent confirms he is in talks with Serie A side Napoli.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move for the French midfielder in recent weeks, as the 20-time English champions bid to rebuild their squad after an implosive abysmal season which sees them miss out on Champions League qualification for next term.
The feat cost manager David Moyes his job as United boss, barely a year into his tenure after being handpicked by his predecessor, the iconic Sir Alex Ferguson.
Now, it appears Manchester United will have to set their sights elsewhere as Gonalons looks primed for a move to Italy instead, with stalwarts Napoli now in pole position to land the footballer.
“Tomorrow I will be travelling to Naples,” Gonalons’ agent, Frederic Guerra, told Italian outlet Radio CRC.
“Everybody knows that last summer Napoli have asked for Gonalons, and that [Lyon President Jean-Michel] Aulas has refused their offer. Now the president has told me that he has left the door open for the incoming summer,” Guerra added.
When asked as to the status of the talks, he said: “I would say that he has 80% possibility to join Napoli.”
Gonalons has been in excellent form this season for Lyon, evidenced in his 48 appearances overall for the club.
Gonalons’ contract with Lyon expires in 2016.
