Antonio Conte in Shock Contention for Juventus Departure
The managerial role of Antonio Conte with Italian giants Juventus may be in peril after speculation emerged that the club’s hierarchy are skeptical about renewing the tactician’s contract.
Both parties are thought to be in preliminary talks over a contract extension but those negotiations were put on hold until the summer, further fanning the fire that Conte may be on his way out of the club.
According to Italian daily La Stampa, Bianconeri CEO Giuseppe Marotta is thought to be wary of extending the head coach’s deal, which expires in 2015, although the reason for this – including the club’s abysmal performance in the Champions League this season, which saw them dumped out of the elite tourney in the group stages – is unclear.
Leading contenders to replace Conte include decorated manager Roberto Mancini, who is currently taking charge of Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray.
Other managers thought to be in Juventus’ shortlist include ex-Zenit St Petersburg boss Luciano Spaletti and Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid fame.
Since his arrival in 2011, Conte masterminded Juventus’ triumphant road to two Serie A titles and two Italian Super Cups.
