Sporting Lisbon’s reliable midfielder William Carvalho is set to become Manchester United’s first big signing in the upcoming transfer window, according to the Sunday People.
A formal announcement from any side, however, is yet to be made.
Carvalho, 21, is believed to have been in the shortlist of the Red Devils manager David Moyes for quite some time now and the Old Trafford boss is relieved to have snapped up a trustworthy man to solidify the side’s brittle midfield.
It is understood that Carvalho’s agent has already been given a tour of Old Trafford and that the midfielder is set to formalise his move to the Premier League before the World Cup kicks off in June. The move will cost the Red Devils £37million – the amount needed to trigger Carvalho’s release clause.
Apart from Carvalho, Chief Executive Ed Woodward is busy pulling strings behind the scenes to land Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos, and the German playmaker could be the next big signing on his way to Old Trafford as the 20-time English Champions seek to put the current season’s woes behind them.
Carvalho joined Sporting Lisbon in 2011 and has been making great strides toward improving his game in the past two seasons with the Portuguese club. He has already made 22 league appearances this season, scoring two goals.
Carvalho’s contract is set to expire in 2018.
