Pellegrini Close to Snapping Up Barcelona Contract-Rebel Valdes

Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City are homing in on Barcelona’s iconic goalkeeper Victor Valdes, with the Premier League side believed to be close on settling a deal with the shot-stopper, according to French daily L’Equipe.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper announced in May of last year that he will not be renewing his contract with Catalan giants Barcelona, which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Such an announcement fueled speculation as to where the veteran keeper will play next, with a variety of clubs being linked to the Spaniard, including big-money French side AS Monaco, but it appears that Manchester City will be Valdes’ destination, as both camps are set to agree on a deal within the next few days.

Should the move push through, Valdes will be reunited with former Barcelona official Txiki Berigistain, who now works at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City’s Director of Football. The goalkeeper will also be joining his other Spanish compatriots David Silva, Alvaro Negredo, and Jesus Navas.

Valdes started his senior career as a footballer with Barcelona in 2002 and has since then helped the Catalans reach greater heights, making over 385 appearances for the club along the way.
