Manchester United Target William Carvalho Will Stay at Sporting, Says Club Chief
Sporting Lisbon’s highly-rated midfield general William Carvalho is happy and will not be moving to greener pastures come the summer, insists his club’s president Bruno de Carvalho.
The 22-year-old Portuguese international is making a lot of waves in the footballing world this season due to his formidable strength, passing ability and overall presence in midfield, as shown in his 31 appearances for Sporting Lisbon thus far.
Indeed, Carvalho has already attracted attention from a handful of Europe’s elite, with Manchester United alongside Real Madrid and Monaco his most ardent of admirers.
Sporting Lisbon president De Carvalho, however, believes the rumours don’t hold much ground, telling The Mirror: “I am almost certain, if not absolutely certain, that William will continue at Sporting.”
The Sporting Lisbon supremo added: “William is very satisfied, he is happy and so are we.”
De Carvalho, however, did not seal the door completely shut on his player’s file and fears the player could leave should a single club find the audacity to pay up the player’s release clause, which amounts to a staggering £37m.
“You never know when a club might appear and be interested in taking him by paying the release clause,” de Carvalho said.
William Carvalho’s contract with Sporting Lisbon is set to run until 2018.
