Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons Added to Manchester United Midfield Shortlist
Manchester United’s continued search to fix their midfield quandary is understood to have lead them to France, as the defending Premier League champions take a closer look on Lyon’s defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons.
Gonalons, 25, is one of the first players on the team sheet for Lyon, evidenced in his league appearance record of 29 starts this season, having only missed two league games for the club.
And it appears Manchester United are liking what they are seeing in Gonalons – his accurate passing skills complimenting well his strength to keep the ball from the challenge.
According to Italian daily Il Mattino, the Red Devils have already made known their interest in Gonalons to the Lyon hierarchy, although nothing formal is yet to be made.
Furthermore, Manchester United’s bid for Gonalons is thought to be facing stiff competition from Serie A side Napoli, who are also keen in snapping up the reliable midfield man. As to which club Gonalons will end up with next season, however, remains to be seen.
Gonalons is a graduate of Lyon’s youth academy, and made his professional debut for the club in 2009. Since then, he has appeared in over 137 matches for Lyon in Ligue 1, scoring five goals along the way.
Gonalons’ contract with Lyon is set to expire in 2016.
