Liverpool eager to land Porto star

[one_fourth last=”no”][/one_fourth]Liverpool have sounded out Porto star Fernando over a transfer to Anfield, suggest Portuguese magazine A Bola.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has just 4 senior midfielders – Steven Gerrard, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson – rivalling for three spots in his starting line-up and he would like to reinforce this part of his squad to aid the Reds bid to protected a top-four finish.

The Portuguese magazine state Liverpool have approached Fernando’s agent to talk about an upcoming transfer. The midfielder will be free to speak to other clubs in January as his contract ends in June.

Everton came close to contracting him during the summer season, while a variety of European sides, including Juventus, Napoli, Inter and Fiorentina, are also on his path.

But it is thought Liverpool are prepared to offer him a larger salary than any of the Serie A sides, while his agent Antonio Araujo confesses “anything can happen” in the foreseeable future.

Araujo just lately told TMW: “There is demand from one big Italian club, but we’re talking about the future and anything can happen.”
