Liverpool consider Nigel de Jong loan bid

[one_fourth last=”no”]File:Liverpool FC.svg[/one_fourth]Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is considering a potential loan bid for AC Milan defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong. The Reds may be required to pay a loan fee for de Jong however as he has been a first team regular at the San Siro. The Dutch enforcer joined Milan from Premiership giants Man City for a fee believed to be around £3.5m in August 2012 and he has gone on to make 30 appearances in Serie A.

Rodgers saw first choice defensive midfielder Lucas come off with an injury during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday night, the Brazilian has picked up a knee ligament injury and is expected to miss at least 2 months of action for the Merseysiders. Joe Allen has struggled with a few injuries since his big money transfer to Anfield from Swansea last season and has struggled to get a run of games under his belt.

Rodgers knows he is desperately short for options in the anchorman position and is keen to quickly add some experience and talent to his squad to fill the void left by Lucas. Club captain Steven Gerrard could slot into that position but he is preferred in an attacking role and at 33 he has his own struggles with injuries. Now Rodgers has set his sights on Nigel de Jong as he looks to keep up the Reds bid in their quest for an all important Champions League place.

Holland international De Jong has Premier League experience having won the title with Manchester City in 2012 and he could be tempted to return to England as he is said to be worried about i Rossoneri’s domestic form.  Compatriot and legend Clarence Seedorf has taken over the reins at Milan and wants to keep de Jong at the San Siro but several newspapers in England are reporting this story and anything can happen in the January transfer window.
