Liverpool chase Cabaye

Red’s manager Brendan Rodgers is keeping a close eye on Newcastle United’s star midfielder Yohan Cabaye.  The French international has been in inspirational form for the Magpies this season, and has impressed during his time in England since joining from Lille in 2011.

The Liverpool boss is desperately short on midfield options and Rodgers is also keen to provide some much needed competition in the area whilst also strengthening his squad.  Club captain Steven Gerrard is currently injured and cannot be relied upon as much as he used to, leaving Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen as the only senior options in central midfield.

Cabaye especially impressed Rodgers during Liverpool’s league encounter with Newcastle earlier this season.  The all action midfielder produced one of his wonder goals and his box-to-box energetic game is exactly what Brendan Rodgers is looking for.

Cabaye is sure to be in big demand.  The Gunners unsuccessfully tried to lure him to the Emirates in the summer failing with a £10m bid.  Manchester United, desperately lacking consistency in midfield this season has also been strongly linked with the player.

Liverpool may have to wait until the end of the season to get their man. After being dropped from the Newcastle team, having not been prepared to play for his side following Arsenal’s bid, Cabaye has fought his way back into the team and firmly cemented his place again.

“I’ll finish this season with Newcastle and concentrate on the coming months and then we’ll see.

Should the Reds finish in a top four place in the Premier League and qualify for next seasons Champions League they will push hard to land Cabaye.  It is expected he will be available for around £20m and there will be plenty of interest in him, so Liverpool will have to move quickly to get his signature.
