[one_fourth last=”no”]File:Olympique de Marseille logo.svg[/one_fourth]Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting today that Olympique de Marseille are set to make an offer for Internazionale’s left sided defender Alvaro Pereira. The Uruguayan, who can also play in midfield has struggled to establish himself in the Inter Milan first team under manager Walter Mazzarri, making just 5 appearances in Serie A this season.

Having represented his country at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Pereira feels his place in the Uruguay squad for the upcoming World Cup Finals in Brazil is under threat and the pacey defender is desperate to make the move to the south of France where Marseille can guarantee him first team football.

Pereira plied his trade at Porto between 2009-2012 and he was a regular for the Azuis e Brancos. He made 72 appearances in the Liga ZON Sagres scoring 2 goals and his consistent and exciting performances with Porto prompted Inter Milan to come in for his services. They paid €10 million for Pereira, reuniting him with his former Porto team-mate Fredy Guarín, and during his intial period at the club he carried his good form with him in to the San Siro. However since Mazzarri’s arrival in the dug-out, Inter have switched tactics and formation and the 28-year-old finds himself on the fringes of the first team.

Pereira is also attracting interest from Turkey, Roberto Mancini’s Galatasaray are said to be interested in him. Current Uruguay goalkeeper and good friend Fernando Muslera is already at the club and could help Pereira settle and adapt to life in Turkey but according to TMW, the Stade Vélodrome is his preferred destination. Marseille would prefer a loan deal seeing Pereira play for them for the rest of the season with an option to buy the player at the end of his loan spell.

Alvaro Pereira has previous Champions League experience and he would be an ideal addition to Marseille’s squad. He has also played for Romania’s CFR Cluj, and he represented both Quilmes and Argentinos Juniors in Argentine Primera División. He began his career with home town club Miramar Misiones of Montevideo and Pereira has 52 cap and 5 goals for his country.
