Marseille Ponder Giving Manager Role to Southampton’s Pochettino

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino may well be on his way to France as Ligue 1 side Marseille are thinking about offering the Argentine a managerial role at the Stade Velodrome next season.

Marseille’s league form have been disappointing this season, garnering only a total of 44 points in a span of 30 games so far, placing them in sixth at the table, ten points adrift of a Champions League spot and a whopping 19 points away from second place, the rank they finished with last season. They also crashed out of the Champions League group stage without a single win and lost to underdogs OGC Nice in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France.

Marseille sacked Elie Baup in December as a result, with Jose Anigo taking over as caretaker manager. Now, the Ligue 1 side are looking forward to a new start next season, and are eyeing Pochettino as a worthy replacement.

According to French daily Le Parisien, Marseille are mulling over a plan to convince Pochettino to make the switch from the Premier League to Ligue 1, with a bumper pay package to seal the deal.

Pochettino is doing well with Southampton this season, leading his side to 45 points in 31 games, placing them to ninth in the table and just nine points shy of a European cup spot.

Whether Pochettino will consider a move away from where he has already established a considerable foundation, however, remains to be seen.
