Hamburg Wonderkid Hakan Calhanoglu on Atletico Madrid Radar
Hamburg playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu could be set for his first transfer as a professional footballer in the summer as current La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid make their move for the youngster.
The 20-year-old Calhanoglu has seen his stock rise under Hamburg colours in recent months, helping the club hang on to their dire hopes of retaining top-flight status with 10 goals in 29 league appearances.
Despite his efforts, however, Die Rothosen remain in peril of relegation as they are currently wallow in 16th place with 27 points, just a point clear off the automatic drop zone – and should Hamburg get relegated, Atletico will find this coming summer as the most opportune time to snap up the 20-year-old.
Sure enough, according to Spanish daily AS, Los Rojiblancos are already in talks with the player’s father regarding a potential move to Spain.
“We have recently accepted Hamburg’s offer of renewing my son’s contract until 2018, but until now we still have ten different clubs interested and Atletico is one of them,” Hakan’s father, Huyesin, has revealed.
The father also revealed of the interest coming from Atletico’s derby rivals Real Madrid, saying: “Real Madrid have even made an approach to my son’s agent, Bektas Demirtas, and they are thinking about [the move] for next season.”
