West Ham tussle with Celtic and Everton for Icelandic hot shot Finnbogason

24 year old Alfred Finnbogason has emerged as top priority on Sam Allardyce’s Christmas shopping list.  West Ham have been miserable up front this season with Modibo Maiga only recently scoring his first goal in over a year for the club.  Record signing Andy Carroll has not played for the club since signing permanently in May being sidelined with successive heel injuries.

Finnbogason, currently plying his trade for Heerenveen in the Eredivisie, has been in free scoring form for the Dutch side netting 47 goals in 40 games since signing for them.  The Icelandic international has regularly scored goals wherever he has been and West Ham believe they need Finnbogason to stay clear of the relegation places.

The West Ham boss has sent his chief scout over to Holland on more than one occasion now to watch the prolific striker in action.  Allardyce can get his man for £5m however faces stiff competition for his signature.

The highly-rated forward is also on Evertons radar. Toffees manager Roberto Martínez is looking to provide top scorer Romelu Lukaku with cover and competition as Nikica Jelavić edges ever closer towards the exit door at GoodisonPark.

Finnbogason would prefer a move to England over Scotland and the race for his signature will surely heat up once the January transfer window opens in a couple of weeks time.
