Athletic Bilbao Defender Aymeric Laporte Firmly in Bayern Munich Crosshairs
Historic treble winners Bayern Munich are keen in reinforcing their defensive line in the summer and are heavily considering a swoop for Athletic Bilbao’s reliable defender Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte, despite his young age of 19, has grown into a key figure for Bilbao in recent months, with the defender in excellent defensive form for Los Liones this season, evidenced in his 30 league appearances for the club so far.
And such a promising young centre-back is thought to be one of Pep Guardiola’s prime transfer targets for Bayern come the summer, according to Spanish daily Marca, as the Allianz Arena tactician seeks to add depth to his ageing defensive lineup.
Bilbao, however, are unlikely to give their rising star away for cheap. Indeed, they are understood to have slapped a £30m price tag on Laporte’s head in an effort to dissuade Bayern Munich in making a swoop. The Bavarian giants, however, look to be prepared to match that asking price.
Laporte is only the second French footballer to join Athletic Bilbao in the club’s 116-year history, after Les Bleus icon Bixente Lizarazu.
Laporte’s contract with Los Liones is set to run until 2018.
